No.  And that's precisely the point.  Why does GNOME have to go
reinventing the wheel?

   Gtk+ as they do for GNOME.

Right.  None.  CDE apps aren't written using GTK+, so users of CDE
have no use for it.

   If you say `Oh, but the GIMP is the greatest application ever' in this
   context, I will ask:

Well, I don't.  (Shh.  Don't tell Sven, but the gimp-print plugin as a
significant application is eventually going away.  All of the funky
drivers we're doing will become CUPS filters of Ghostscript drivers,
and the plugin itself will be hollowed out into practically
nothingness.)

   GNOME is about bringing missing technologies to free systems and
   enable free systems to be used on the desktop.  And we will write and
   implement what needs to be written and implemented.

Oh, for heaven's sakes.  Unix's strength (compared to Windows) is in
the back end.  Unix is very weak in the front end.  Unix is actually
pitifully weak in the back end compared to mainframes, but it's a darn
sight better than Windows.  Back end infrastructure is a whole
different ball of wax from front end application support.
