One of the more amazing things that are happening with gnome is the
gdk-pixbuf,
we have here a lot of information to create good printing page in low and
hight
resolutions.
Excuse me if this mail is out of point, just my 0.2 ;-)
Cheers

Hi,
perhaps this email is little superflous but I begin think we're missing
the point.

I'm developing printing apps for 15 years in very diverse OS. Sometimes
we're
talking about the very low level and we're losting the top level of
the model.

From the user view of point gnome-print is just select and configure
a printer
and the system must choice the right driver. And that must be
so simple like
in another OS.

From the developer view of point: gnome-print must return the specific
information
of the printer. I dislike too much that the developer need to take
decisions if the printer
talk postscript or pcl or whatever it use. That doesn't mean that if
the programmer
wish to have very specialized code for every printer in the world,
he/she cann't
do it in a low (and dependent) api. But my wish as developer is got
one api
very close the way I draw in the screen and don't have in my program
specialized
code. The hard and smart work must be doing for the printer driver.
