Just out of curiocity what are the complaints you have with PS. Alpha
blending is the only thing that I have heard come up but that isn't
really a problem with PS it is just a matter of convience. All you
have to do is add a bit of code to your preamble that does something
like:
x1 y1 transparency image x2 y2 backgroundimage AlphaBlend ==> blendedimage
Force the PS interpreter to do the alpha blending for you. The processors
in most PS printers are very powerful and I am sure that they would
enjoy doing something more interesting than rendering MS word
documents all the time.
