You grabbed too new versions of the libraries. From GnuCash's website:

        The majority of the GnuCash 1.6.x dependencies are satisfied by
        installing standard Gnome 1.4 core libraries.
        
The same apparently holds for GnuCash 1.8.x You told configure to use
some Gnome 2.2 libraries. They are not compatible with 1.x libs.

Here's what Debian's GnuCash requires, your versions of the libraries
shouldn't be much higher than what's in the parentheses:

So gtkhtml 3.0 is wrong, use gtkhtml 1.0.4, libgnomeprint 2.2 is wrong,
use libgnomeprint 0.29
