How does gnome shell detect it's not compatible on a system and fallback is needed? Or is it a case of just waiting for gnome-shell to crash?
The reason I ask, I've built a livecd (PXE booted actually) that is text based and grabs things like the hardware profile. As a test I wanted to check if Gnome3 would work on the system, without starting the graphics server if I can help it.
