[gnome-slackware]gnome-config and glib-config give different results

Hi folks,
I have got the following problem.

gnome-config --modversion  /glibs tells me that I have glibs version---> 1.2.1
and glib-config --version tells me --->1.2.10

I installed version 1.2.10 from the web with
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install
ldconfig, and I tried ldconfig -n /lib

the version I had beforhand was 1.2.1

What am I really running and how can I find out?  How can I change this, so 
that ./configure from other programs will recognise it?
