Indeed. I just did a complete "emerge -eu system" of my Gentoo
2006.0. Without even logging out after the update was done the
definitions windows issue is largely resolved. I looked up a word and
the result did a correct auto-resize of the width of the text. It didn't
auto-resize the vertical length of window, so I only get 9 or so lines
of text.

I don't know which program update did the trick, but all my programs in
the "system" group are now at least up to date with the "x86" keyword,
and some packages are up to date with the "~x86" keyword. Also, some
unmasked ones are in use.

Because the window issue was resolved without logging out of my Gnome
session, and without killing gnome-panel or any other programs, I
suppose it may be easier to find out which program was the hero.

And again the dictionary applet shines on my desktop! :-)
