Debugging gvfsd

I want to debug a gvfs backend, sftp in particular. How is it done?

I start gvfsd -r, to replace the system-installed gvfsd. I'm able to set
breakpoints within gvfsd, but the sftp backend seems to be run from a
new spawned process.

Whilst I can attach to this new sftp backend process (and that works
fine) I want to debug the startup. How is that done?
