GM seems not to control esd, i have to unload ur suspend esd (suspending 
 works until the next esd-sound-event) to let GM play it's sound events 
(or in general: to let it use ALSA device).

Damien: GM now seems to be quite stable in ALSA mode. I'll try to rape 
it a bit.
