A little comment (not about the patch itself), about something that
bothers me ever since I worked on the plugins.

The current video input api is designed and works pretty well when the
"driver" knows the full list of sources it can support.

It fails when the list isn't known, or is very large, which is for
example the case of the "Picture" plugin.

There doesn't seem to be any easy solution to this, since making drivers
able to display a file (or whatever else it uses) chooser would make
them huge, toolkit-dependant and probably arch-dependant.
