I just compiled an howl-and-dbus-enabled gnomemeeting, but it shows 0
users on my lan ; I guess it doesn't show myself ;-)

Can't I use the utils in the howl-utils package to see myself, or create
a false other client?

Having more technical details is still nice, though ;-)
