Didn't you already write a gaim plugin some time ago? If you still have
it somewhere, that would be nice to have a look.

Gaim plugins' system seems quite nice from what I've (quickly) seen. It
seems they're using signals quite intensively, which is a nice thing
too: it should fit well with DBUS' way of doing things.
