Ok, obviously H264 isn't worth the time, there are too many issues around
it.
How about the others? There are lots of codecs around. Xvid, other "mpeg-4"
codecs, VP3, Ogg Theora, ... Although the codec wouldn't be entirely
standard it could be still used for GM-GM connections as an option.
A Snippet from Theora's FAQ: "Theora is targeted at competing with MPEG-4
(e.g., XviD and DivX), RealVideo, Windows Media Video, and similar
lower-bitrate video compression schemes." Sounds promising? It's still in
development though but might (as an upgradeable plugin?) be useful? *Shrug*
What about the resolution btw? I didn't catch any comments on that. Would
the FULL "standard size" (2x cif?), be useable without breaking much things
(and having the need to develop something really new), just pad the edges
with black or something if the camera gives out only 640x480?
In any case, I like what I have just heard. When at least I get to know that
there is some cvs development worth trying version available at least I will
gladly test it out. (Including possible Windows version, I had to buy wifey
Windows..)
