I don't know if you are aware of UNICAP, a video API lib which wants
to abstract IIDC-IEEE1394, V4L and V4L2
(http://datafloater.de/unicap/main_overview.shtml).
It may be of great help for gnomemeeting (Keep in mind that I don't
know if gnomemeeting and unicap could fit together).
I had a look ; it looks feasible. But the following remarks have to be
taken into account:
* video devices are handled by gnomemeeting through pwlib, which isn't
GPL but MPL -- so to use unicap, you would have to write a pwlib plugin
and distribute it with gnomemeeting to respect licences ;
* gnomemeeting already does much of what is done in unicap (through the
use of plugins);
* gnomemeeting would need a user-friendly name for each device, and I
haven't seen if it was available (not visible in the examples and
sf.net's cvs doesn't want to answer so I check the sources) ;
* although it should be simple to use it for capture, some work would
still be needed to get it up ;
* it is still a young project it seems, while the current plugins
already received much debugging.
All in all, I would say there's little incentive to make use of it right
now -- although it looks like a nice and useful project.
