Ok, so let's see what the constraints are.

1) the already available addressbooks must fit in the new scheme ;

2) the future kde addressbooks must find their place easily ;

3) searching should be dead-easy ;

4) the future "live" contacts must find their place easily ;

5) the backend-frontend frontier should be clear enough to allow for 
easy DBUS exporting

6) Damien wants it fast.

Yes, going back to the blackboard isn't the best way to achieve 6...
