[GnomeMeeting-list] GM 0.85 compile errors - 'libpt'

I am attempting to perform a clean GM 0.85 install on my slack 8.0 box.
Don't wish to upgrade my libs to Gnome 2.0, hence I have not upgraded to
GM 0.93.

Below are the errors I receive when I compile GM.

make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/GnomeMeeting-0.85.1/src'

make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2

Earlier I was advised to do the following..
'rm -rf /usr/lib/libpt_*' and 'rm -rf /usr/local/lib/libpt_*'

I suspect the above action may be source of my problems.

How do I resolve the issue?
