Thanks for the reply Damien... yes, I did read that section in the FAQ,
but what confuses me is the fact that I only have tcp ports 30000-30010
open on the firewall, and no udp ports ("UDP ports between 5000 and 5003
for audio and video" as indicated on the FAQ), yet I can transmit video
to the outside world?? Now how does that work??
Cheers,
Dean

Hi,
your problem is not a GnomeMeeting/netmeeting problem, but a firewall
problem! ;)

Hi All,
I've been trying to get my Gnomemeeting to work behind the firewalled
gateway on my home network for ages! It is finally SORT OF working using
the gnugk (openh323gk) . I am trying to call someone outside my home
network who is using NetMeeting without a firewall/NAT. The result is
that they can see me, but I can't see them (I have made sure that they
are transmitting video). I believe my problem lies in the port
configurations on my gatekeeper and firewall. I have tcp ports
30000-30010 open as well as 1720-1721 open... I don't have any udp ports
open for it. Could that be the problem?
Yes, you need UDP ports opened. But the ports you are allowing
(30000-30010) are the ports used by GnomeMeeting. Nothing assures you
that the gatekeeper is using the same ports. You have to allow the ports
used by the gatekeeper if the gatekeeper is on the firewall, not the
ports used by GnomeMeeting.
Now, I wonder why you are not simply using GnomeMeeting 0.94.1 and IP
Translation. It works out of the box for many users. Only forwarding TCP
30000-30010 1720 and UDP 5000-5003 to your internal host and it works.
BTW, can someone explain to me what the use of tcp ports 30000-30010 and
udp ports 5000-5003 are used for?? I am not clear on the H323 protocol
and have done lots of searching on the web without much success. Have
also read the FAQ but still don't know what ports are used for what. Any
help would be appreciated.
In the FAQ:
Question http://www.gnomemeeting.org/index.php?rub=3&pos=0#AEN196:
6.1. What ports does GnomeMeeting use for H.323?
* 1720 TCP for the H.225 channel.
* TCP ports between 30000 and 30010 for the H.245 channel. If both H.323
software are using H.245 Tunneling, those ports won't be used. However,
Netmeeting doesn't support H.245 Tunneling and those ports will always
be used when being in a communication with a Netmeeting user. Notice
that Netmeeting doesn't use the same ports on his side than
GnomeMeeting, but is using random ports instead.
* UDP ports between 5000 and 5003 for audio and video.
I guess you didn't read the right question in the FAQ... :)
Cheers,
Dean
