I have a MSI VIA KT266 chipset based mb, which includes the VIA 8233 for
its build-in sound card (maybe it is a VIA 8233-Pre if that exists,
dunno).
I have tested gnomemeeting with it as a sound device and it seems to
work well (quality doesn't seem to be as good as for my other sound card
a SB Live! though).
I haven't done any exceptional configurations since I wouldn't know how
to do it either :) I just compiled my own kernel with ALSA modules and
installed them...
I use debian-sid with a 2.4.22 kernel
Here is some info:
$ cat /snd/sndstat
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v0.9.8 emulation code)

I have no idea if I should get rid of the snd-[pcm,mixer]-oss modules,
or any other, but like this seems to work :)
I wish I could give you more details, but... well, at least you know it
can be done without being an expert :)
