I am just curious... how did you manage to
install gnomemeeting from an rpm (I am convinced you installed from an RPM,
or otherwise you wouldn't have it linked against a library you don't have)
when rpms do have dependency checks?
rpm has a --force option that overrides dependency checks, for people
that know what they are doing. Unfortunately, too many users use it
without knowing what they are doing and what dependencies are and why
they are needed, and without understanding that the application will not
work correctly, if at all, without the specified dependencies.
Although I'm not saying this happened in this particular case, it sure
happens all too often.
Overriding dependencies is not that bad. The ones I ignore at times are of
the type "mutt needs a mail daemon and you don't have one" and I for example
have qmail installed from source. However, I have *NEVER* overriden a
dependcy to a library and I do think it is one of the worst ideas ever.
I hope these little pieces of wisdom turn out to be helpful somewhere.
