More info:
I checked the permissions of /dev/audio and /dev/dsp:
0 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 4 Jun 13 2001 /dev/audio
0 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 3 Jun 13 2001 /dev/dsp
I am in the audio group:
uid=1000(minton) gid=1000(minton)
groups=1000(minton),0(root),0(root),20(dialout),24(cdrom),29(audio),50(staff),1006(tripwire)
esd was not running:
pidof esd;echo $?
1
as an aside, if gnomemeeting doesn't support esd, why does it
have the --espeaker option?
- --espeaker=HOSTNAME:PORT Host:port on which the sound server
to use is running
(from gnomemeeting --help)
