Check that there is no problem with the network cards or the cable.

What are your jitterbuffer settings in bouth GM versions?

What soundcards do you use and do you use OSS or ALSA drivers?

No, I have been using  0.96.1 <--->  0.85.1 with no problems. So the 
different versions of GM
is not the problem.
