<snip> it is possible in the kde control center to have arts autosuspend if it is inactive. you can set the amount of time for inactivity in seconds default is 60 set it to say 30 wait for it to time out and you should be ok. to set it you need to open the control center go to Sound & multimedia and the sound system its on the arts tab which should be the first one Dennis > It is probably artsd blocking the soundcard then, but I'm sure there is > a way to start artsd in standby mode so that it doesn't block the > soundcard when it is not needed.
