I believe you are talking about Firewire AVC cameras only, becase I think DV
cameras don't have mics in general.

The way the code (PWLib code) was organized the last time I looked at it, the
class that provides the video frames was responsible for handling the video
device as well.  I am not sure what the best way of sharing this firewire
device in PWLib would be, but since every grabber is running in a separate
thread (i think) it seems quite impossible for the audio and video grabber to
interoperate. I have no experience with threaded code, so I'd need some
feedback about the possibilities here. Furthermore, I've never looked at the
audio handling code, so I don't know if there isn't something else as well.
