Actually it doesn't matter which one you use. The only difference that the
names makes in the pwlib code is that if you're using video1394 a variable
UseDMA is set to TRUE but this variable is not used anywhere (I thought I'd
find a use for it later).
Other than that, gnomemeeting itself checks to see if the selected device
selected starts with /dev/video1394 or /dev/raw1394, so that it knows which
class to use for handling the device. The names are equivalent.

DV - impossible. The only place where DV is handled is withing the grabber
itself, but it is immediately decompressed to the very raw RGB24 which is
surely compressed with some codec afterward. This is why gnomemeeting takes
plenty of cpu time when using a DV camera.
You can use iptraf to see what the speed of each connection you make is. Maybe
it is not a problem with the bandwidth at all.
