[GnomeMeeting-list] React on incoming data

I would like to implement some stuff like 
adjustment of speakers and mic on arriving
data on the udp port. Are there any methods/
callbacks which  would react on incoming data ?
Or is this obsolete, cause there is always data
beeing received during a connection ?
