Hi,
I think pretty much everyone has a valid point for the great bits vs. bytes
debate.
I am satisfied with either (although I prefer bits) as long as there is a
label or text box somewhere that gives the total bandwidth (in
kilobits/sec) I will need to use GM as it's currently set up. I think this
would help new users as well to determine how best to allocate speed vs
quality and so forth. Alternatively, you could choose the total bandwidth
(in kilobits/sec) you want to allocate to GM and use the slider to vary
speed/quality. While I'm wishing, it would be nice to have a slider for
both audio and video since on any given call, one may be more important
than another. (I realize this could be a coding nightmare, but I'm just
wishing...)
Knowing the total bandwidth (in kilobits/sec) is also necessary so that you
can tell the far end what they will need in terms of bandwidth in case they
have a different type of connection or are using a different client
(especially true with the dreaded Polycom units which I constantly have
trouble with).
If we added up all the 2 cents dropped on this question, we could probably
buy a codec ;)
thanks,
morris
