I think that I had this same problem when I was building the Slackware 10.0 packages. Did the "make install" target fail with an error about mkinstalldirs? If it did, the GConf settings weren't installed properly and I think that this is why GnomeMeeting throws errors at start. If so, make sure you make a symbolic link between /usr/share/automake-version/mkinstalldirs and /gnomemeeting/source/directory. Then try to run the "make install" target again.
