It fixes the problem when connected to h323.voxgratia.org; but
the problem persists whenever I try to connect to a contact.
No audio out...

Nope, no influence. The druid test is a basic sound test.
My guess would be that you have accidentaly changed you ALSA mixer
settings for the Capture or Mic.
