Merci Kilian,

in my travels around the internet I discovered

deb http://pkg-voip.buildserver.net/debain unstable main

which I put in my sources.list, commenting out gnomeeting & voxgratia,
enabling me to apt-install, after downloading a lot of (in retrospect) unnecessary files.

I now have 2.0.2 on Deb unstable and 2.0.1 on the WinXP partition. Julien Puydt
was right - my gtk+ there was out of date. I thought 2.8.8 was the latest but
discovered 2.8.18 after which it launched very nicely. I like the idea of a stable
backup on another system ... redundancy.

I got a lot out of reading the re-written Help contents (F1), and followed Damien's
picture option to focus on audio.

Unfortunately, neither can pass the echo test. With 2.0.2 it gives me one beep and dies
with < sip:500 ekiga net > or < sip:613 fwd pulver com >. With 2.0.1 I get the message

"Error while starting the listener for the SIP Protocol. You will not be able to receive
incoming SIP calls. Please check that no other program is already running on the port used
by Ekiga."

I get the same msg for H.323 ...

I've read that someone overcame this problem by registering but after entering
my accounts in Edit > Accounts nothing happens.

Logically, I should not be setting up a new account because I have already
registered 'agike' with ekiga.net in my Debian account; similarly for
PC-to-Phone.

I've tried entering account details, 'adding' a SIP account, and editing account
info options but get the msg: "Registration of agike to ekiga.net failed".

Audio is OK - the Druid (what's this with menhirs and 'x's ?) audio test
worked, and I can stream radio comfortably ..

Is this situation not yet allowed for in Ekiga, or am I missing something ?

Adam Bogacki,
afb paradise net nz
sip:agike ekiga net .. when it works.
