What is the local for Australia, or, where can I find a list of locals?
My bet would be en_AU. Off hand I don't know where you could find a
normative list of locale names but there is certain to be an
standard encoding form.
You need to specify a language, and a country, sometimes also a charset
or a sub-district to get exactly what your specific area requires.
All are unofficially derived from ISO abbreviations, and fudged if
necessary, like the ccTLD system.
en_GB.ISO-8859-1 means English, spoken in the UK, using Latin-1
en_AU is a good bet, it will give good defaults in i18n-aware apps,
for language translations you might find it's worth specifying that
you can also read "en_GB" (British) if you prefer not to see US
spellings everywhere. (at least IIRC Australian spellings are closer
to the UK than the US)
Nick.
