This seems to be obviously because the text-import wizard is getting a
crack at the file format before the default file opener.
Odd, the meaning of 'default' is that it should have first crack at
things. HEAD or 1.0 ?
both. it's easy to verify. same as default, use gunzip to uncompress,
then try to load it in.
i think saving as "foo.xml" will save uncompressed, too; that shouldn't
load right, either, but I haven't checked this.
