   Why does Gnumeric's code have 'gnum_float' instead of 'double' or
   'gdouble'?

   Specially since gnum_float is a 'double' anyways.

Because in 1.1.x, gnum_float can be either "double" or "long double".
You should really be working with the 1.1 series.  Nothing non-trivial
will go into 1.0 at this point.
