Getting lost with Guppi.

Hi all.

Installed gnumeric 1.1.16... I can get it to compile without Guppi, and it
works fine. Installed guppi 0.40.3 (as indicated in the docs), didn't
work. (Note: shouldn't the Graph button on the spreadsheet be absent if no
graphing is available?)

Seems it needs at least Guppi 0.50.0 (which isn't on Gnome), according to
the insides of configure. I suspected it was on CVS, so downloaded
libguppi from there.

Tried to run autogen, tells me it needs gnome-common. Got that one from
CVS too.

Tried to run autogen there, tells me it needs automake (with an
out-of-date pointer to automake 1.3 BTW). I _have_ automake 1.7.2
installed, use it quite often in fact. Why doesn't it work?

Help appreciated...
