1.0.x has been very stable for a long time I doubt its a coding
problem.  More likely version skew in the libraries you're trying to
use.

Not in my copy.

libgnomeprint/gnome-font.h:142:GList * gnome_font_family_list (void);

Double check which gnome-print headers you are using.
