batch processing for gnumeric xml spreadsheets

Dear all,

this is my first posting to this list - I hope the question is not too
obnoxious.

I have been using (and loving) gnumeric extensively for some time now.
The only feature I sorely miss is the ability of doing some batch
processing on gnumeric files, such as: exporting every sheet of a
spreadsheet in latex format with a command line, etc. I often have to do
these batch jobs and I really would like to do them with a Makefile
script - cannot access the GUI.

I have searched the archives and not found much. I am currently thinking
of writing a perl or python script perhaps using bonobo to access
gnumeric components and do the job (not much time to spare, though).

Questions:

1) is there *anybody* on the planet who is already doing/has already
   done that?

2) is that the right approach? any other suggestions?

Thank you - gnumeric is really great

nicb
