The 1.0.x tree is available in th tarballs and on the web

ah I see the problem.  The 1.1.16 release still used gnome-print-2.0
which has a distinct api from gnome-print-2.2 and is parallel
installable.  CVS now uses 2.2 to make life easier for garnome
users.
