autogen then make

I must be getting closer. After installing a number of items autogen gives:

Configuration:

        Source code location: ..
        Compiler: gcc
        Compiler flags: -g -O2 -DG_DISABLE_DEPRECATED
-DGDK_PIXBUF_DISABLE_DEPRECATED -DGDK_DISABLE_DEPRECATED -DGDK_MULTIHEAD_SAFE
-DGTK_DISABLE_DEPRECATED -DPANGO_DISABLE_DEPRECATED
-DLIBGLADE_DISABLE_DEPRECATED -DGNOME_DISABLE_DEPRECATED
-DBONOBO_DISABLE_DEPRECATED -DBONOBO_UI_DISABLE_DEPRECATED -Wall
-Wmissing-prototypes -Wsign-compare -Wpointer-arith -Wnested-externs
-Wchar-subscripts -Wwrite-strings
        Floating point type: double

Python Support: unable to find python
Guile Support: disabled pending some guile developer interest
        GNOME Support: yes
Bonobo Component disabled until it compiles
        GDA support: NO. libgda problem
        GNOME-DB support: no

Now type `make' to compile Gnumeric

which would seem to me to be a good thing.
Now trying make I get (at the end):

make[4]: *** [dialog-plugin-manager.o] Error 1
make[4]: Leaving directory `/home/bob/CVS/Gnumeric/gnumeric/scratch_dir/src/dialogs'
make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/bob/CVS/Gnumeric/gnumeric/scratch_dir/src'
make[2]: *** [all] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/bob/CVS/Gnumeric/gnumeric/scratch_dir/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/bob/CVS/Gnumeric/gnumeric/scratch_dir'
make: *** [all] Error 2

which would seem to me a bad thing.
Have I missed installing something still?

Bob
