I used to get this kind of corruption on an older Mandrake
cooker kernel around 2.4.17 or so. Would always blow
away /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc with a list of funky
kernel stuff like below. Presumably, kdmrc is written seconds
before reboot as kde shuts down.
I guess the question is, what kernel are you using?

The start of the file looks OK, but after a while it turns into a symbol
list, perhaps part of the Linux kernel symbol table or similar, e.g.
c0188a80 put_cmsg
c0185b3c sock_kmalloc
c0185b78 sock_kfree_s
c018ce80 neigh_table_init
c018cf74 neigh_table_clear
(snip)
