Eildert,
You can adjust the data source cells for an XY Plot by right clicking
the chart, selecting properties, and then choosing Series from the item
list. It is sometimes easier to create an empty plot then add a data
series to it.

I have a very silly question but cannot find the solution myself (not via
google nor the gnumeric docs)
I want to simply make an x,y plot. How can I assign data to X ?
whenever I highlight two columns I get two data series in the graph line;
X is then the row numbers??
You probably choose the wrong plot type. For x,y plot, you have to select
XY, not Line :)
well, the problem remains: whatever plot I choose: all columns I select become
dataseries in Y; X remains the the row numbers.
Any other suggestions?
