Cell reference to an unopened spreadsheet

Hello All:

I just set up a gnumeric spreadsheet with a cell reference to another 
gnumeric spreadsheet. The cell reference only seems to work so long as the 
other spreadsheet is open.  Is there a trick to making gnumeric recognize a 
reference to an unopened spreadsheet?
