Copy/Paste isn't handling formula references

Using gnumeric 1.8.4 on Mac OS X 10.5.6 to copy a formula (select
cell, Control-C), Paste Special is not available, and if I paste,
gnumeric only inserts the value of the formula at the source cell, not
the formula or the formula with the expected modifications to the
relative references.
Do I have an out-of-date dependency?
