Well, if the superscript consists just of numbers, parenthesies and some
few selected symbols you can do this using the appropriate UTF
superscript characters. If you are suing linux you can insert utf
characters using 
ctrl-shift-u unicode-number enter
for example
 ctrl-shift-u 2078 enter
should yield a superscript 8:⁸
