Does gtk_fixed_put() ref the gtk pixmap?

If I use gtk_fixed_put() to `put' (parent?) a gtk pixmap into a fixed
widget, will that also ref the gtk pixmap in question?

Could I call gtk_fixed_put(), and then gtk_widget_unref(gtk_pixmap)
so that when another pixmap is put into the fixed widget the previous
pixmap will be automatically destroyed?
