gtk_widget_hide(): strange behaviour

Hi!

 I have a really strange problem: I have a window that is not hidden by 
a call to:

gtk_widget_hide ( win );

even if I know the code line is executed (because I debugged the program).
The problem does not happen every time, and if I call a gtk_widget_show 
and *_hide
again, it works.

Being part of a big project, I cannot create an example code easily, but 
I'll provide
it if I need to.
In the meantime, anyone having some hints about where to look?
