GTK+1.2 VS GTK+2.0

Can anyone tell me the difference between 
GTK+2.0 and GTK+1.2(or are they the same!!). I
want to usegtk_button_new_from_stock. But my 
current version of GTK (version 1.2) doesn't
support this. Can anyone tell me which version
supports this functions. I wanted to use STOCK
BUTTONS. Please tell me the path from which I
can download it.
