strange bug

i have the following two variables which are global in scope, person_id and 
pay_week_id. (unique record ids in MySQL) person_id always seems to be 
available, but pay_week_id seems to go away when the gtk_main() loop is 
entered. or, maybey when i come out to another callback, i'm not sure. any 
ideas what might be causing this?
