problem with get_io_channel_unix_new()

hi, here's my problem

my gtk application needs the get_io_channel_unix_new() function. This function is declared in glib.h

I also use g_io_channel_read(). 
When i link my application, gcc can't find the get_io_channel_unix_new() (message: undefined reference) but 
g_io_channel_read() works.
I use a linux station with gtk 1.2

i gotta present this application for a one week exhibition monday!!!!
