Hi
I would like to write a command line application that outputs the
current workspace (under GNOME, I had someting in WindowMaker, but this
does not work in GNOME). I have tried the following:

All "workspace" stuff depends on the window manager, so I guess for GNOME
you have to check the Metacity code (or check the gnome pager codebase).
And you may check the window manager specification on www.freedesktop.org.
