Benchmarking GTK

Is there a "good way" to benchmark a program that uses GTK.  We're working
on a research compiler (called Mirv) at UofM and we would like to use more
complex applications than those found in SPECint (ideally, large things
like Mozilla and GIMP).

One approach we've considered is to somehow record events and play them
back with graphics disabled.  Is this possible in GTK?
