Extension Events

I need to get the ShmCompletion event from the XShm extension when a
GdkRGB draw finishes.
1. Is there any way to get an event without filtering through all X
events? I don't suppose it will be delivered via the "event" signal on the
widget...?
2. How do people suggest the GdkImage & GdkRGB APIs be modified to allow
requesting the event?
